A FAREWELL

Haldane bids adieu

Just over five years ago, I got a call from then-editor of the Reporter Daniel McCabe, offering me the job of associate editor. Six months later, McCabe moved over to Alumni Relations and I took the daunting helm of a newspaper that serves a community of 10,000 very smart and exacting readers.

In writing about McGill research, I've delved into the mysteries of death-evading worms, Caribbean Creole, arctic nutrition and '50s true-crime illustration. Within our diverse student body, I've chatted with the former sound engineer for Prince, a webmaster for a site dedicated to metros and builders of robots.

Even better, I've been charmed to have fun and smart co-workers, notably associate editors Mark Reynolds and Neale McDevitt, both of whom are great storytellers and easy laughs.

Overall it's been an exhilarating ride but after much consideration, I've returned to freelancing. The campus hasn't seen the last of me: Now I have more time for all the lectures, concerts and exhibits that I was too busy to attend before.

Best and à bientôt, Maeve Haldane
