It is a given that professors emeriti and recipients of honorary degrees are trailblazers in their fields. This is certainly true of the 15 men and women who will be so celebrated during Spring 2008 Convocation.
But even more impressive than their respective accomplishments is their unflagging commitment to the service of others. The members of this select group excel in a diverse array of professions, but all share a passion to improve the world in which they live. They teach, they heal, they build, and they draft the laws that stand as the cornerstones of democracy. Without their dedication and contributions we are poorer, because of them we are stronger.
During Convocation – a celebration of the limitless potential of our graduating students as they embark upon new journeys – the four professors emeriti and the 11 honorary degree recipients also stand as shining examples of lives well lived. They, too, once stood at the starting gate of their careers. They, too, had to make choices. They chose to serve.
