Michael Fine, Shemina Jiwani, Nathan Trenholm and Joel Unruch, students in the Faculty of Management, placed second at the Marshall International Case Competition, which involved 18 teams from universities from around the world. The team was coached by Professor Richard Donovan.

Dr. Alexandre Prat, a neurology resident at the Montreal Neurological Institute, has been awarded the 2000 S. Weir Mitchell Award from the American Academy of Neurology. The prize honours the best research paper written by a neurology resident. Prat will present his paper, Kinin B1 receptor expression and function on human brain endothelial cells-in vitro blood brain barrier permeability study, at the academy's annual meeting in May. He also receives $1,000.

Dr. Brenda Milner, from the Montreal Neurological Institute, will be awarded an honorary degree from the University of Cambridge in July. Milner, an internationally respected neuropsychologist, has more honorary degrees than some people have towels -- 14 and counting.

Ramon de Elia, a PhD student in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, was awarded the Spiros G. Geotis Prize for his paper, "Sidelobe contamination in bistatic radars," at the 2000 American Meteorological Society annual meeting. De Elia is a student of Professor Isztar Zawadzki.

Dr. Alfonso Mucci of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences is the first ever McGill professor to be awarded the 2001 Past President's Medal of the Geological Association of Canada since the medal began in 1974. The medal is awarded to a geoscientist who, during the first decade of his or her career, is judged to have made an outstanding accomplishment in their particular field, which, in Mucci's case, is the behaviour of carbonate minerals in sedimentary environments. The award will pay for Mucci to give a cross-country lecture tour.

Diana Grier-Ayton, editor, Andrew Mullins, assistant editor, and graphic specialist Steven McClenaghan, from the Instructional Communications Centre, are to be congratulated for winning the 2001 CCAE Prix d'excellence gold medal for the best university magazine in Canada, the McGill News. The award is given by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education.
