Bell named as Herzberg finalist

Dr. Graham Bell, James McGill Professor in the Dept. of Biology, was named one of three finalists for the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering as announced by Dr. Suzanne Fortier, President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). Dr. Bell is a internationally renowned evolutionary biologist who has pioneered the use of experimental methods to study the evolution of microbial populations in real time. His latest work is aimed at predicting whether and how populations will adapt to global change. Considered Canada's most prestigious science award, the NSERC Herzberg Medal comes with an increase of $1 million in funding over five years. The medal will be awarded at a ceremony in Ottawa on March 17.
