Our hearts go out

In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Polytechnic Institute on Monday April 16, Principal and Vice-Chancellor Heather Munroe-Blum expressed her deepest sorrow and concern, on behalf of the McGill community. “Our hearts go out to the families of all those killed in this unconscionable act of violence, and to the Virginia Tech community,” said Prof. Munroe-Blum. “Those of us who spend our days at universities and colleges share the fact of having chosen environments that espouse an ideal of both unfettered intellectual freedom and physical refuge. When that ideal is senselessly shattered at one institution of higher learning, we, all of us, feel it. It is our fervent hope that from this pain will come greater knowledge and a deeper understanding of human suffering.”
