Hey, parents, it’s time to sign the kids up for summer camp—and what better place to attend camp than McGill. Here is a sample of some of the fun and learning offered by the university this summer:
If developing a software program or designing a robotic mission is your teen’s idea of a good time, this is the ideal camp. This week-long camp is designed to expose students ages 15 to 17 to computer science in all its endless fascination. It immerses them in real-life applications, research groups and team competitions, all at the Lorne M. Trottier Building, where world-leading computer science is taught and explored during the academic year.

Held at the Schulich School of Music and F.A.C.E. School, Camp Artemusik is perfect for musically inclined kids ages 5 to 15. In addition to daily doses of choir, dance, percussion, drama and arts and crafts, Artemusik offers specialized camps such as video, garage band, orchestra and DJ camps. No musical background is required, but musical enjoment is guaranteed.

What began as a summer school for gifted students is now an activity-filled enriching program that offers children ages 4 to 18 everything from origami to a smorgasbord of sciences offered at McGill. Children are taught by professional teachers, including McGill professors. The camp is sponsored by the university and the English Montreal School Board.

Junior jocks ages 6 to 15 have the run of the university’s state-of-the-art athletic facilities, seasoned instructors and lush green spaces. This activity-filled program is divided into three areas: sports, creative activities and aquatics. Events are carefully structured to accommodate camper age, ability and interest. The emphasis is on summertime fun, not competition.

Jointly run by McGill and Concordia science students, REACH! offers scientifically minded campers everything from astronomy to biology, to chemical and mechanical engineering to robotics. REACH!, for campers finishing grades 3 to 6, takes place at the McConnell Engineering Building; REACH! Higher, for campers finishing grades 7 to 9, takes place at Loyola Concordia University.
