A McGill-hosted website that teaches users about the human brain has been singled out for special commendation. "The Brain from Top to Bottom," developed with McGill support by neuroscientist Bruno Dubuc, has been recognized as an outstanding online educational resource by The Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT). The site, available in French and English, invites users to navigate through tutorials on such topics as the brain's connection with memory, emotions and the senses.
Pioneer honoured
The first woman to graduate from a Quebec law school, Annie Macdonald Langstaff, did so at McGill in 1914. But her subsequent efforts to gain admittance to the bar proved fruitless as her 1915 petition to write the bar exams was dismissed both at trial and on appeal (it was not until 1942 that Canadian courtrooms would be opened to women lawyers). This week Annie Macdonald Langstaff was posthumously recognized for her contribution to the cause of justice by the Bar of Montreal, which awarded her its highest honour, the Médaille du Barreau. Macdonald Langstaff died in 1975.
