Order of Canada honours three McGill professors

Three McGill professors have been named to the Order of Canada for their outstanding lifetime achievements. Frederick Andermann, a professor of neurology internationally known for his treatment of epilepsy, has been named an Officer of the Order. Dennis Osmond, an emeritus professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology who was renowned for pioneering work in the field of immunology, and Ann Macaulay, a teacher of family medicine, have been named Members.

Macaulay was chosen for her work with the community of Kahnawake on strategies to prevent type II diabetes, and for her promotion of participatory research in general. "I'm overwhelmed. I'm very honoured and I think it reflects the strength of the community," says Macaulay of the award.

Created in 1967, the Order annually recognizes lifetime contributions made by Canadians who made a major difference to Canada. This year, 12 of the 77 Canadians named to the Order are Quebecers.
