McGill's top-ranked MBAs

The Financial Times of London's survey of 100 MBA programs in the world, released on January 24, places McGill graduates first in North America -- and 11th worldwide -- for international mobility. This measure is based on the employment movements of alumni between time of graduation and today. The results are based on a survey of the 2001 alumni and an analysis of each school's activities.

"McGill ranks consistently high on the international mobility criteria and this reflects the very nature of our graduates," explains Omar Toulan, assistant professor and academic director of the McGill MBA program. "McGill MBAs are highly diverse, are well prepared to embrace international careers and have a strong sense of inquisitiveness, which helps them succeed in international settings."

As in previous years, McGill scores high on all international aspects of the ranking, placing among the top 10 in North America for international faculty, international students and international experience of students during the program.

"Students are exposed to cultural diversity at McGill, which includes their professors and fellow colleagues," Toulan adds. "As they go through the program, they are challenged on a daily basis to further develop an understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues, an asset praised by employers who recruit for positions abroad. Industry recognizes their strong potential to become not just successful managers, but also world-wise leaders."

Dr. Duncan Pedersen received an honoris causa distinction as a professor at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCD), thanks to his work in Peru for the UPCD Tier two Mental Health and Human Development Project. Former Peruvian consul in Canada Guillermo Russo was present at the ceremony, held in Lima. Pederson, director of the Psy-chosocial Research Division at the Douglas Hospital Research Institute, specializes in trauma-related disorders and social suffering, and long-term impact and health outcomes of socio-political violence.

Bachelor of Commerce students won first honours at the 17th edition of the Jeux du Commerce held at the Université du Québec à Rimouski from January 7 to 10. Over 1,000 students from 13 Eastern Canadian universities attended this inter-university competition. The event included academic competitions (cases, a debate and a stock market simulation) where team had to present in front of a jury made of members of the business community and professors. Sports and social competitions were also part of the event.
