Principal honoured

On May 11, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) bestowed an honorary doctorate of science upon McGill Principal and Vice-Chancellor Heather Munroe-Blum at the university's spring commencement ceremonies. Prof. Munroe-Blum, a UNC alum, was in very good company – she received her degree alongside a Nobel Prize-winning chemist, a highly accredited genome scientist, one of the United States' most celebrated performing artists, and a North Carolina state senator.

Rugby duo named to Canadian squad

Alastair Crow and Kyle Buckley, both members of the McGill University championship men's rugby team, have been selected to play for the Canadian under-20 team at the International Rugby Board junior world championships in Wales this summer. Crow, a 19-year-old native of Victoria, B.C., led the Quebec University Rugby League (QURL) in scoring last fall with 88 points on 25 conversions, seven tries and one drop-kick goal. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound fly-half is a physiology sophomore. Buckley, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound winger from Ajax, Ont., finished second in the QURL scoring race with 70 points. The 20-year-old international business sophomore tallied a league-high 14 tries. Canada opens the tourney in Wales against Australia (June 6), followed by matches against England (June 10) and Fiji (June 14) before the playoff round begins. Before heading overseas, the U-20 team will play an exhibition match against the Hyde Lay XV at Shawnigan Lake, B.C., on May 10.
