A new and improved version of Town Hall was unveiled on Feb. 12 at the Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building. Dispensing with the regular Q and A format, the new interactive Town Hall saw Principal Heather Munroe-Blum open the floor to three areas of concern to McGillians: meeting the needs of students within a research-intensive university; sustainability and the environment; and funding.
The debate on McGill's sustainability was easily the liveliest. The Principal noted that the rest of the McGill community should take its cue from the student body, congratulating the latter for a number of campus-wide green initiatives. Getting rid of Styrofoam in cafeterias and making sure professors adhere to McGill's paper use policy, which allows for essays to be submitted on double-sided paper, were just some of the suggestions made by the audience.
The next Town Hall will be held on Friday, March 9 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Macdonald Campus, Macdonald-Stewart-Raymond Complex, R2-045, 21111 Lakeshore Road.
