Professors Avi Friedman and Louis Pretty from the School of Architecture Affordable Homes Program received the Association of Collegiate School of Architecture's Collaborative Practice Award for their studio project Designing Affordable Housing with Passive Solar Considerations in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Dr. Brenda Milner of the MNI was named the winner of the 2004 award for neurosciences from the U.S. National Academy of Science. She is the first scientist working out of the United States to be so honoured. The prize, awarded every three years is worth $25,000. Nobel Prize Winner Dr Eric Kandel called Milner "One of the giants of our time." The award will be presented on April 19 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The November 2003 issue of Canadian Journal of Chemistry was dedicated to G.H. Tomlinson professor (emeritus) of chemistry John Harrod. To honour his outstanding contributions to both homogeneous catalysis and materials chemistry. The issue described Harrod as a "gracious colleague and a mentor to chemists in Canada and elsewhere."
