The Award of a Lifetime

Long-time Anthropology Professor Bruce Trigger has received the Society for American Archaeology's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award (2006) for his extraordinary archaeological and anthropological accomplishments. His influential scholarship has challenged widely accepted beliefs and stereotypes, such as the role of Native cultures in history, and has helped to reevaluate the way in which Canadian history is viewed. Trigger is an Officer of both the National Order of Quebec and the Order of Canada, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and is the first Canadian to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

National Magazine Awards

History professor Desmond Morton and Vice-Principal of Development, Alumni and University Relations Ann Dowsett Johnston have been nominated for National Magazine Awards for their winning way with words. Morton wrote the piece "Reflecting on Gomery: Political Scandals and the Canadian Memory" for Policy Options, nominated in the Politics & Public Interest category. Dowsett Johnston's article for Maclean's, "Stalking a Silent Killer," is nominated in the Service: Health & Family category.
