A new agreement for collaboration has been approved between McGill and the Université de Picardie Jules Verne in France. Principal Shapiro of McGill and Dr. Paul Personne, president of the partner university, signed the Agreement during Dr. Personne's visit to McGill on April 1, 1996.

Any faculty members who are interested in developing further contacts with the Université de Picardie Jules Verne should get in touch with Dr. Robin Stewart of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

New Funding for Canada-China Collaborations
The Canadian International Development Agency has established a new program for joint initiatives with China: The Canada-China Higher Education Program (CCHEP). The program aims to establish sustainable partnerships and to help Chinese institutes meet the country's development needs.

Funding can be up to $5 million over 5 years. The Canadian partner institution must contribute 30% of the costs (in cash or in kind). Projects must be oriented to one of 3 areas: Economic Co-operation; Environmental Sustainability; Human Rights, Democratic Development and Good Governance.

There will be only one competition. The deadline is July 2 (McGill deadline June 25, 1996). Proposals will be reviewed by a joint Chinese-Canadian committee. Projects are expected to start in the fall of 1996.

Travel Support for New S&T Collaborations with European Partners
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade will provide partial support for travel to Europe through its S&T with European Partners (STEP) program. The objective is to stimulate new research links. Applications are accepted at any time.

Travel Support to Central and Eastern Europe
The Professional Partnerships program is funded by CIDA and covers airfare to or from countries in Central or Eastern Europe. It is intended to help academics and professionals accept invitations to initiate or participate in activities which will promote economic and democratic development. Upcoming application deadlines are May 10, June 21 and August 2.

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute: India Studies - 1996 Fellowship Competition
Fellowships are available to faculty members, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in the Social Sciences and Humanities, and in Art. Tenure is 3-12 months. Deadline is June 30, 1996.
