Engineering Class of '44 Outstanding Teaching Award

Dimitrios Berk

Department of Chemical Engineering

1) I think that the main challenge is not only to teach students facts and concepts, but also to guide them in developing skills, such as critical thinking and problem solving, which are indispensable for their professional or personal lives.

2) There are three main requirements for teaching a course well and meeting the challenges in question 1. The first is to have enthusiasm and interest in teaching the subject, the second to communicate this material to the students in an organized and logical way, and the third is to care greatly about the success of this communication. Any effective steps taken to meet these requirements are hallmarks of "good" teaching.
