Engineering Alumni Award

Laurent Mydlarski

Department of Mechanical Engineering

1) Speaking from the point of view of an engineering professor, I would say the most difficult aspect of teaching at the university level is communicating relatively sophisticated concepts in a clear and simple manner. I find that trying to recall the time when I was not familiar with these concepts can help me to realize what difficulties students may encounter with these same concepts today.

2) I always found that my best teachers presented the material in a clear, structured and logical fashion. I believe that such a presentation is crucial to teaching engineering subjects well. And a little humour never hurt anyone!
