Chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation since 1995, Norio Ohga has an acumen for both the art and business of music. A graduate in music from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and the Kunst Universitaet in Berlin, Ohga began his career as an opera singer before being hired by Sony to evaluate concert halls and recording venues. He rose through the ranks, nurturing what would become the biggest record company in Japan. Together with Philips, Ohga was instrumental in establishing the compact disc format. Ever attentive to the needs of artists, Ohga has initiated numerous endowments and programs for the development of young talent. He pursues his own musical interests by guest conducting orchestras around the world.
