As a student, I appreciated lecturers who were entertaining and made me laugh, as well as those who mesmerized me with coloured slides. Now, as a professor, I would select as a role model Professor G.C.B. Cave, who taught me analytical chemistry. His demeanour, his depth of knowledge, the straightforward way he delivered the information by simply using a blackboard, and his fairness are the things that I remember. It is my hope that my students walk away from my courses understanding how each concept that I have taught them is formulated rather than simply remembering the concept or how it was delivered. I also hope that my lectures stimulate interest and provide the students with a clearer understanding of how advances in science are made.
