Change in Academic Status
Grantees whose appointment or academic status is changed during the tenure of an award, e.g., a leave of absence (sabbatical, maternity, etc.), change from full-time to part-time, emeritus or adjunct position, termination of appointment at the University, permanent disability, etc, are reminded to notify the granting agency(ies), the Research Grants Office and the Research and Special Funds Office of their status change immediately.

NSERC/SSHRC Chairs in the Management of Technological Change
The NSERC/SSHRC joint program of support for university-industry Chairs in the Management of Technological Change has been renewed and approximately $1.7 million has been allocated per year to fund the program over the next five years (1998-2002). The two Councils are now inviting applications to establish new research chairs, or to renew funding of existing chairs, where eligible, under the program.

Awards are for an initial period of five years, providing both salary and research support for a senior researcher. Renewal of part of the chair holder's salary (on a declining scale) and research support for an additional five years is possible, subject to a positive review and continued commitment from the private sector sponsor(s).

Applications must be received by NSERC or SSHRC no later than January 15, 1998. (Deadlines for subsequent competitions will be announced at a later date.) For further information on the program, suggested topics related to the management of technological change, eligibility, evaluation criteria, application instructions, etc., as well as a list of all chairs supported under the joint program since 1989, please contact RGO at 3996 or visit the Councils' websites at http://www.nserc.ca or http://www/sshrc.ca.
