An outstanding teacher and lecturer whose clarity and excitement about intellectual issues are especially valued by students, he was awarded the H. Noel Fieldhouse Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Faculty of Arts in 1998. In addition to his teaching and research, Professor Hall has held a number of administrative posts at McGill, including the chair of the Department of Sociology.
